Journalist Mildred Lancaster left New York and returned to her hometown of Mermaid Springs to take over the family’s newspaper while her father recovers from a serious car accident. She is there less than 24 hours before tragedy strikes at the local amusement park. A murder has taken place and Mildred immediately begins to investigate, which draws the ire of the local sheriff, Thad Donovan. They form an uneasy alliance and work together to unravel the mystery.

I really enjoyed this book. It is set in the 1950’s and the author carefully incorporates pieces from that era throughout.  Mildred is a feisty character that stands her ground in a male-dominated field (and culture) and proves she belongs. It’s a fun and fast read that I think many cozy mystery readers would enjoy. I look forward to more books in this series.
